Privacy Policy

Account information. When you sign up as a customer or a moving company, we collect your name, email address, and a password (or, if you use "Continue with Google", your name, email address and profile picture from your Google account — we never see your Google password).

Move request details. When you request quotes, we collect what you enter: your name, phone number, WhatsApp number, email, moving date, origin and destination areas, property type, and any notes about special items, packing or storage needs.

Mover business information. If you register as a moving company, we collect your company details, service areas, pricing, vehicle information, and the verification documents you upload (company registration, identification, proof of address, and insurance documents). These documents are stored privately and are only ever visible to you and our admin team reviewing your application — never shown publicly.

Usage information. Where analytics tools are enabled (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, or Meta Pixel), we collect standard usage events — such as which pages you visit, or when a quote form is started or completed — to understand how the site is used. We don't run any analytics ourselves beyond what those tools provide.

• To match your move request with suitable, relevant moving companies.
• To let movers submit quotes, and to notify you and movers by email when that happens.
• To operate your account and dashboard, and to verify moving companies before they can respond to leads.
• To communicate with you about your request, quotes, or account.
• To improve the site and understand how it's used, where analytics are enabled.
• To prevent fraud, abuse, and spam (for example, a hidden honeypot field on our quote form).

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

This is the part of our model that most affects your privacy, so we want to be specific about it. When you submit a move request, it's matched with several relevant, verified movers at once — but your name, phone number, WhatsApp number and email are not shown to any of them yet. Movers only see the details of the move itself (route, size, date).

The first mover to respond with a quote wins the job, and only that mover is given your contact details, so they can get in touch to arrange your move. Movers who don't respond first never receive your contact information at all. This is enforced at the database level, not just hidden in the interface.

If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us, which we use to create or log you into your account. We request no other permissions on your Google account, and we never post anything or access your Google data beyond this. You can review or revoke this access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.

We work with a small number of service providers to run the platform:

• Railway — hosts our application and database infrastructure.
• Resend — delivers transactional emails (e.g. notifying a mover about a new lead, or a customer that a mover has responded). Only the minimum information needed for that email is sent to Resend.
• Google — provides the optional "Continue with Google" sign-in.
• Analytics providers (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel) — only where and if enabled, as described above.

Beyond the specific mover who wins your request (see Section 3), we don't share your personal information with other movers, or with any other third party, except where required by law.

We keep account and move-request information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service — for example, so movers who won a job can still see the details for that booking. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll remove your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we're required to retain records by law.

As a South African business, we handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). You have the right to:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
• Ask us to delete your account and associated personal information.
• Object to how we use your information, or withdraw consent where we rely on it.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details in Section 10 — we'll respond as quickly as we can.

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information — including encrypted connections (HTTPS) everywhere, access controls that restrict data to only the accounts that need it (for example, mover verification documents are only ever visible to you and our admins, never other movers), and hashed passwords. No system is completely infallible, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information secure.

JohannesburgMovers.co.za is intended for adults arranging a move or running a moving business. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, as we add new features. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Significant changes will be communicated more prominently.
